Ekphrasis: our definition

Ekphrasis is the production of new literary work which is inspired by and describes various forms of art. This could be sculpture, painting, architecture, textiles, dance, music, and even other pieces of literary work.

Our mission

This is Sketches Magazine, a home for ekphrastic creative writing. We welcome all new and established poets, writers and art lovers to contribute to this publication and explore how art makes them think and feel. Published every two months, this magazine will encourage future contributors to consider any of the prompts selected by our editorial team and respond to them by producing short pieces of creative writing. This may be a beautiful description, or a memory the piece evokes in you, you may choose to write a sestina or a short story instead. It is entirely up to you!

We look forward to reading all submissions and sharing your work!
